
E. Michael Reyes, MD, MPH
Principal Investigator
Edward Michael Reyes, MD, MPH, has held major leadership roles with the Western AIDS Education and Training Center and the Pacific AIDS Education and Training Center (PAETC) since 1989. His current position as PAETC Principal Investigator has been to develop a variety of innovative HIV clinical training programs for health care providers in the states of California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, and the six United States–affiliated Pacific jurisdictions. Dr. Reyes's role has been to develop and direct 15 to 20 subcontracts with health professions schools and community-based organizations in the region. During that time, the funding for the project has grown from approximately $1.9 million annually to over $5 million annually.
In April 2002, in collaboration with the lead institute, University of Washington, Dr. Reyes began work as Co-director of the International Training and Education Center on HIV (I-TECH), serving as the Principal Investigator for the UCSF component of the center activities. I-TECH currently is working in 12 countries and the Caribbean region. Dr. Reyes holds an Adjunct Professor Faculty appointment in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, UCSF. As the Principal Investigator of the Center of Excellence for Transgender HIV Prevention (CoE), Dr. Reyes oversees the project and assures contract compliance between the PAETC and the State Office of AIDS.
