Our Department is committed to celebrating and promoting diversity in all facets of our programs. We believe that the rich diversity of racial and ethnic heritage, gender, sexual orientation, and other life experiences among the members of our community enhances the quality of our educational programs, patient care, research, community service, and work environment.
- A Department Task Force on Outreach and Recruitment supports educational opportunities for underrepresented minorities from elementary school through medical school.

- The Multicultural LEARN (Linkage of Education, Action, and Research Networks) Program is a broad initiative based in UCSF’s primary care departments. Focused on the needs of underserved populations, LEARN faculty, students and staff are working to create an integrated academic multicultural health and cultural competence program in the arenas of education, research, and linkages to community-based organizations. LEARN is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and administered through UCSF School of Medicine’s Department of Family and Community Medicine.
